Ink cartridge, or in other words, Inkjet cartridge is a replaceable part containing the ink or sometime the print head of an inkjet printer. This sort of ink cartridges can be replaced or remanufactured now quite easily as there are multiple companies offering compatible ink cartridges and cheap printer ink. Ink cartridges are generally quite expensive; sometimes it’s even a substantial fraction of the cost of the printer itself. Many people use compatible ink cartridges purchasing it from a vendor other than the printer manufacturer as it saves their money to some extent. But there is another alternative that involves modifications of an original cartridge allowing the use of continuous ink systems with external ink tanks. So much to that, some people even use aftermarket inks, refilling their own ink cartridges using a kit that includes bulk ink.

It’s obvious that these ink cartridges are though expensive if it’s purchased from the original manufacturer, there are some third parties who offer ink sold in bulk, cartridge refill kits, machines in stores that automatically refill cartridges, remanufactured printer ink or cartridge. The consumers have the option to refill the ink cartridges with a kit, or can take the cartridge to a refiller or remanufacturer who pumps the ink back into the cartridge. But this may create some problem while printing like streaking, curling, and color bleed on the page. Buying bulk ink is not appropriate for those who run a heavy use of cartridge. Dell, HP, and Lexmark cartridges are not very difficult to refill. However, some Lexmark cartridges employ a built-in counter chip that can't be reset. The Canon 221 ink cartridges are quite easy to handle for the inexperienced users since this refilling process can be a little messy. There are some third party manufacturers who have been offering refillable cartridges with an auto reset chip to simplify this refilling process. Unlike others, these refillable cartridges are less harmful to the environment and often easy for further refilling.

We the consumers may often find it surprising that the price of replacing our printer cartridges compared with that of purchasing a brand new printer is sometimes even higher. Since much of the printer manufacturers' profits depend on ink and toner cartridge sales, some of these companies even stand against aftermarket cartridges. Replacement cartridges from the original manufacturer of the printer being expensive as already told, several vendors produce compatible ink cartridges as less expensive alternatives. These cartridges may contain more ink than the original branded ink cartridges and may produce either the same, better, or inferior quality of performance, depending on a variety of factors, including the vendor's ability to duplicate the ink formulation. But for the consumers, especially those who are making more usage of their printer, it’s really a relief to know that some companies even offer discount ink and toner for printer. Most of the compatible printer ink and toner cartridges come with a 12 month warranty against manufacturer defects. If someone is looking forward to reduce the printing costs, he can look for the available offers on cheap printer ink or discount on ink and toner for printer in the market through various sites.
